MEET RYAN DIXON
Leveraging Law Enforcement Experience for Public Service
Macoupin County: What is there to say about my feelings for this place I call home? It’s where I was born. It’s where I grew up. It’s where I received much of my education. It’s where I fell in love. It’s where I got married. It’s where we raised our children. It’s where my family has earned a living. It’s where I have protected and served for nearly 25 years. To say it’s a place I love is an understatement. It would be an honor to serve you, as your leader of the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office.
After graduating from Eastern Illinois University earning my Bachelor of Science Degree, I began my teaching career. My first job teaching was at Northwestern High School in Palmyra. I went into education as both my father and mother were educators, my father in Carlinville and my mother in Virden. While teaching, I was hired by the City of Carlinville as a part-time Police Officer. This is where I found my true calling in life, law enforcement. In March of 2000, I was hired by the City of Carlinville as a full-time Officer. In 2001, I was picked to be the first full-service K-9 officer for the City.
In 2004, I transitioned to the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office. An agreement was made between the two agencies, and I was able to bring my K-9 partner, Rico, with me. Rico and I were the first K-9 Deputy team in the history of the Sheriff’s Office. During my employment with the Sheriff’s Office, I have received extensive training and earned several promotions. In 2007 I was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and in 2011 the rank of Lieutenant. These promotions contained their own set of challenges and extra duties required.
In 2019, I was placed in charge of the Investigations Division as the Chief of Detectives. I am currently an active Investigator with the Greater St. Louis Major Case Squad, investigating homicides in our region. I am also active with the Illinois Attorney General’s Office with their Task Force for Internet Crimes Against Children.
Throughout my career, I have always had the drive to lead by example and inspire others. With my experience and knowledge gained over the last 24 years of law enforcement, I believe that I make the best candidate as your Conservative Republican leader of the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office in 2026.
